Program of Study
Before you can be admitted to candidacy, you must file a program of study with the Graduate College. The program of study (POS) is a list of all of the courses you have taken and will take throughout the course of your studies. There are a few things to remember when filling out your POS.
- Doctoral students must list at least 84 credit hours.
- Doctoral students must have at least 12 hours of PHY 792 (research) and PHY 799 (dissertation) listed.
- Doctoral students may not list more than 24 hours of PHY 799.
- To qualify for graduate credit, a course must have a number of 500 or higher, or a number in the 400’s that is part of the student’s approved program of study.
- A minimum of 30 hours of graduate credit or course work and 24 hours of research.
- Students are required to take and pass the core courses, unless waived by the graduate program committee.
- Each student’s program of courses must be approved by the student’s supervisory committee.
In order to file your program of study,
- Go to My ASU.
- Go to "Academic Record Information" under "Current Student."
- Click on "File Graduate Program of Study."
- Click on "Program of Study" link.
- Follow the online instructions to complete the program of study.
- On the "Summary Page," click on the "Print Course Page" link.
- Ask your advisor to review and sign the printed page.
- Submit the signed program of study to the graduate program coordinator, located in PSF 470.
