Undergraduate Studies

Welcome to the Arizona State University and to our physics degree program. You have a chosen a challenging field of study that will give you an excellent preparation for a scientific or technical career, as well as great personal satisfaction as you master the fundamental laws of natural science.

Our department has a rigorous and stimulating academic program for the major. Our physics major curriculum is specifically designed to emphasize the connections between the different courses. It features a small-group, studio-workshop introductory physics sequence specifically for physics majors, applied mathematics beyond calculus tailored to the needs of upper-division physics courses, extensive development of classical and quantum physics in two parallel three-semester sequences, and up-to-date advanced courses and laboratories.

In addition, members of the department faculty are actively engaged in first-rate research activity at the forefront of knowledge in many different areas, which include nanoscience, biophysics, cosmology, particle physics, complex systems and emergent phenomena. This research is exciting, and participation in research by undergraduates is greatly encouraged and welcomed.

Welcome to ASU physics! Undergraduate physics majors at ASU are part of a community of students, faculty and staff working together towards the common goal of advancing the field of physics and the personal goal of life-long learning. In my role as Undergraduate Program Coordinator and Academic Advisor, I am both a member of this community as well as its support. I welcome both prospective and current ASU physics students to contact me with any questions you might have regarding ASU physics and our undergraduate program.
